Introduction

The District Swimming Gala has not been held for several years. The rules and events have been retained on the site meantime.

The Swimming Gala, is an annual competition for Cubs Scouts, Scouts, and Explorer Scouts, each section competing for a trophy; the A.D.Lyson Trophy for Cub Scouts and the A.D.Lyson Trophy for Scouts. The overall points achieved between the Cub Scout and Scout sections are totalled to give an overall winning Group that will receive the Ian Anderson Memorial Trophy. The Rosyth District Explorer Scouts trophy, is a new trophy for 2003, and will be awarded to the winning Explorer Scout section.

The Swimming convenor will organise the competition under the auspices of Rosyth District Scout Council, and may require the assistance of other co-opted persons, as required.

The rules were written to take account of the swimming pool having a limited number of lanes thus requiring the swimming of heats and a final.

Rules

1. All races count for points.

2. Fastest four (4) swimmers, by time, go into the finals of each event.

3. In the events with four (4) or less competitors, the event will count as a final.

4. Cub, Scout and Explorer Scouts may only swim for the section from which they have been invested.

5. There is no restriction on the number of events a swimmer may enter, as long as they keep within the above rule.

6. The Chief Judge - Will be appointed by the swimming convenor or the District Executive Council.

7. Points awarded in the finals are:-

   • 1st - 4 points
   • 2nd - 3 points
   • 3rd - 2 points
   • 4th - 1 point

8. Correct swim wear is to be worn. (No Bermuda type shorts)

9. Trophies:-

   • 1 Trophy to the Winning Cub Pack - "A.D. Lyson Trophy for Cub Scouts".
   • 1 Trophy to the Winning Scout Troop - "A.D. Lyson Trophy for Scouts".
   • 1 Trophy to the Winning Explorer Scout Unit - "Rosyth District Explorer Scouts".
   • 1 Trophy to the Winning Scout Group - "Ian Anderson Memorial Trophy".

     N.B. Points from Explorer Scout events do not count towards the Group Trophy.

• No Outdoor Shoes are to be worn Poolside
