Tonight at the 48th Fife (Dalgety Bay) Group, Peter Merckel received the Silver Wolf, the personal gift of the Chief Scout, from Alex Duncan, President of East Scotland Regional Scout Council. The award was presented in front of many of Peter's Scouting Family.
Here follows a copy of the citation for Peter Merckel as published in the Scottish Awards Day booklet:
Peter has been an adult member of The Scout Association for 35 years and was last recognised for his dedicated service to Scouting in 2012 with the award of the Silver Acorn. Since then Peter has continued to provide exceptional support in a variety of roles.
As a Cub Scout Leader, Peter is an inspiration to all of his Cub Scouts and the younger adult volunteers in the 48th Fife Pack in Dalgety Bay, who take part in a high quality programme, learning many skills for life and achieving numerous awards and badges. An extremely well-organised District Secretary, Peter's breadth of Scouting knowledge and experience has been invaluable in support of several District Commissioners over the years; his wise counsel being hugely appreciated on countless occasions.
Peter's name is often synonymous with the Rosyth District Scout Active Support Unit, a much valued District asset, where he coordinates activities at local and national level both within Scouting and with external charities. Without doubt Peter is a popular and highly-respected stalwart of Scouting, whose enthusiasm and commitment to Scouting is undiminished; he is most worthy of the highest recognition.
